The Mr. Peevy Show

Story-teller, artist, and educator Ardella Reliford will read and perform her published children’s story, Mr. Peevy Forgets, during this 35-40 minute exploration. The performer is Mr. Peevy, a large puppet created by the artist, and his story of going to the store while forgetting various items along the way (including the very item he is shopping for!) is interactive for the students – as he asks them questions and enlists their help to assist him with remembering what he needs.  The program wraps up with Mr. Peevy answering questions from the students about his life as a hobo during the Depression and as a harmonica player in a Chicago blues band.

This exploration can be performed in a small classroom setting, as well as in a large auditorium. A PA system and microphone will be required in a larger setting. The cost of the program is $300; this cost is negotiable for smaller settings and fewer students.

Suggested Standards/Benchmarks:

Mr. Peevy teaches students listening skills and sequencing as the story progresses. More than a simple retelling of the story, this exploration is interactive – with students physically involved with the props of the program and Mr. Peevy himself.
