DPAA/Dayton Philharmonic Brass Quintet: Adventures in Sound Ensemble Visit

 

The charismatic Brass Quintet performances range from lively demos to discussions of music from around the world. Choose from one of their three engaging programs below. The Brass Quintet consists of two trumpets, trombone, French horn, and tuba.

  • Who Is the Brass Family? – Lively music, an entertaining introduction to the instruments in the Brass Quintet, and a little science too!

  • Music Around the World – Language, dress, and customs all combine to define a culture, but what is missing? Music, of course! Take a musical journey and discover the unique characteristics of music from around the world.

  • Music of Our Time – Explore the music of the twentieth century as the quintet leads your students through significant events of our time as illustrated in music from various decades of the twentieth century.

Age: Grades 3-8

Space required: A gym, auditorium, or large open space is required. Students can sit on the floor in front of the group, in chairs, or on bleachers.

Length: 30-45 minutes

Audience Size: Up to 4 classes. This exploration has a flat cost of $200, so price per student will vary with audience size.

Suggested Standards/Benchmarks:

During this exploration, the students will learn about music and its relationship to the various cultures that make up our world. The latter focus of the explorations will help your students to find a correlation between music and significant events. Many standards within the content areas of English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Music are covered in these performances. Specific target standards depend on the targeted age group and specific program selected.
