Aullwood Audubon: Artist in Residence: Art Mural

During the Artist in Residence: Art Program, Chris Rowlands, Aullwood’s Outreach Naturalist, teaches students to use a variety of art techniques to create a 6’x10′ acrylic canvas mural, which becomes a permanent exhibit at your school.

This program is typically 1-2 weeks in length and takes place on the school campus. It is preferable that the art canvas be stretched out on floor undisturbed for the duration of the program. Access to electricity is needed.

Total cost of the program is $3500 regardless of the number of students participating up to the maximum, so the cost per student will vary.

VISUAL ARTS
DEPENDING ON THE MURAL’S THEME, THIS EXPLORATION CAN ALSO BE ALIGNED WITH MATHEMATICS, LANGUAGE ARTS, SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, ETC.

During this exploration, students will collaborate to combine and apply their artistic skills. Students will be immersed in shapes, colors, and proportions while creating the mural. Composition, planning, designing, brainstorming and reflection are all skills that will all be utilized for this collaborative art exploration.

Teachers and administrators are encouraged to select a design theme that may align with curriculum or a special theme of their school or students. This exploration encourages teamwork and collaboration among students, as well as the opportunity to work on a large hands-on art project that may not be manageable within a regular school art program. This exploration is tailored to meet the school’s curriculum needs on any topic. Contact the provider to discuss ahead of time. Murals that have been created in the past include themes such as exercise, flight, and the rainforest. The sky is the limit on what your students can create!
