The Little Brown House Puppet Theatre is an interactive show for students in grades PreK-3. This “Eenie-Mini” version, is scaled for a single classroom or other small area.
The exploration price is $100, which is negotiable depending on the number of attendees.
Ms. Reliford brings a full puppet show theater set-up, and using puppets created from her own artistry, she will perform cultural tales, folk tales, or fairy tales in the classroom. Ideally, she will create a performance around what a teacher is working with the students on at the time. The performance is 20 to 30 minutes long.
Examples of some of the shows she has performed include fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Aesop’s Fables, African cultural stories with animals, Greek mythology stories, Irish folk tales, etc.
The only requirement for this exploration is adequate space to set up the puppet show theater, an electrical outlet, and 20 minutes prior to and after the the show to prepare and break down. Ideally, Ms. Reliford will have the opportunity to discuss the stories to be told with the teacher in advance of the performance to align them what is being taught to the students at the time of the exploration.
Suggested Standards/Benchmarks:
LANGUAGE ARTS, THEATER, VISUAL ARTS
The stories are very flexible and their content can be adjusted easily. For example, the story of Little Red Riding Hood has been amended to include a Language Arts Element – with the protagonist collecting letters of the alphabet and the Big Bad Wolf attempting to steal them from her. Stories based on Greek mythology often include a science component as the myths attempt to explain things we know about the world around us – stars in the sky, moon and sun, etc. Aesop’s fables and African cultural tales often include teaching the moral of the story. Nearly all the stories teach morality, patience, and kindness.
Stories can be created “on the fly.” Ms. Reliford relishes the opportunity to be creative!
